BIG CLEANING OF PALILULA

Under the motto “Big cleaning of Serbia – Care of community for nature”, in the Palilula Municipality it was held a big job cleaning action. This activity at the national level was initiated by the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning of Serbia, on the occasion of World Environment Day - June 5, and national activities “Clean up Serbia”. The city of Nis has formed City headquarters of action, which is coordinated by Miodrag Radovic, member of City Council, and in five municipalities of Nis were appointed coordinators of the campaign. This action was organized in cooperation with the Public Utility Enterprise “Mediana” - sanitation sector, “Green Network of City of Nis”and media EKOpolis network, promoter of world environmental campaign “Clean up the world”.

In the Palilula Municipality the role of coordinator performed  Boban Mikic, member of Municipal Council. We made a call to all employees in administration, public enterprises, business associations, media, schools, associations, organizations and interested citizens to join the action. At selected locations in Palilula, in the period from 10 to 13 hours, gathered more than 3,000 volunteers, representatives of associations, institutions, organizations. They are in accordance with their abilities - said Boban Mikic, in the space of a memorial park "Bubanj", Kula, in the settlements "Crvena Zvezda" and "Delijski vis" Gabrovačka reka”, in the street "Dusan Popovic" and next to railway line Nis-Dimitrovgrad, gave a personal contribution to a cleaner environment. I would like especially to laud the commitment and contribution of young people from the organization: “And You become Green”, “Union of High School Students”, “Sure step”, “Institute Ekoman”, “NGO Rom – Crvena Zvezda”, “My Bubanj”, scouts units “King Peter First”, “Ekopolis Network”, “Society for the Protection of the Children and Youth”, students of schools “Branko Miljkovic”, “Sreten Mladenovic – Mika”, “King Peter First”, “Kole Rasic”; Citizens` Councils – emphasized Boban Mikic, coordinator of action of cleaning in Palilula, member of Palilula Municipality Council.

The aim of this action it is not a one-time cleaning of illegal dumps, stressed the organizers, but change awareness of the importance of the environment that will lead to the effects of actions to be permanent. The city of Nis and the Palilula Municipality have positive experiences on the organization of environmental actions and campaigns. Cooperation with civil society organizations, educational institutions and public-utilities sector is defined by the signing of a protocol on regional cooperation on environmental protection and sustainable development.

"We care for nature as a community," the slogan of this year's action, which will have its world CUW activity (Clean up the World) and the promotion of the third weekend of September this year, organized by "EKOpolis Network" and a coalition of nongovernmental organizations in the region of Evrobalkan.
